Hydrauli-Flex Hoses: Supporting the Future of Wastewater Infrastructure in Maryland

At The Hose Company, we’ve always prided ourselves on being at the forefront of innovation, especially when it comes to powering the equipment that drives critical infrastructure projects. One of the key components of many industrial applications is the hydraulic hoses that fuel heavy-duty machinery, and our Hydrauli-Flex hoses are built to withstand the harshest conditions. When it comes to wastewater infrastructure projects, such as the massive overhaul happening in Maryland, our hoses play a vital role in ensuring that equipment operates smoothly and efficiently.

Maryland’s aging water and wastewater infrastructure has been a growing concern for local utilities. The WSSC Water department, responsible for the water and sewer lines in the area, is working tirelessly to secure approval for an ambitious overhaul. With over 11,000 miles of pipes, more than 45% of which are over 50 years old, the need for an upgrade is more urgent than ever. Add in the unpredictable weather patterns and heavy rains that frequently impact the region, and the situation becomes even more dire. It’s no wonder that the WSSC is prioritizing replacing these aging pipes to ensure the safety and reliability of the water and wastewater systems.

One of the latest projects aimed at addressing these concerns is in Fort Washington, MD, where the Schnabel Foundation Company is tackling a critical challenge. A sewage line in the area has already been displaced by a mudslide, and Schnabel’s task is to prevent any further movement to avoid potential environmental damage. To do this, Schnabel’s team needed to reinforce the line’s position using H-Beam piles. However, the ground conditions weren’t suitable for a typical crane set-up, and that’s where our partners at ICE® Equipment came in.

Schnabel’s team turned to ICE® for a solution that would ensure the project’s success. The ICE® 7E Side Grip Excavator-Mounted Pile Driver was the perfect choice for this challenging task. Mounted on a CAT 329 Excavator, this equipment provided the stabilization necessary to handle the job on unstable ground. The excavator tracking offered the perfect amount of support, making it a much safer and more effective alternative than a traditional crane solution.

With the combination of Schnabel’s skilled operators and the pre-assembled ICE® equipment, the team was able to complete the project on time and without further displacement of the pipe. The success of this job highlights the importance of adaptability and expertise when dealing with challenging ground conditions—and it’s something we at The Hose Company are proud to support.

Hydrauli-Flex hoses are essential to powering these heavy-duty machines, and we are thrilled that our products continue to support projects that help build the infrastructure of tomorrow. These hoses are the perfect complement to ICE® vibratory hammers due to their exceptional durability and performance under high-pressure conditions. They ensure consistent hydraulic flow, which is crucial for the efficient operation of vibratory hammers in demanding environments. Their robust construction minimizes the risk of leaks and failures, enhancing the reliability and safety of the equipment. In turn, this provides the durability, safety, and performance that ICE® requires for their high-quality vibratory hammers, ensuring successful and efficient project outcomes.

As weather patterns become more extreme and existing infrastructure continues to age, projects like this will become more frequent. At The Hose Company, we’re committed to providing the high-quality hoses that contractors like Schnabel rely on to get the job done efficiently and safely.

Thank you to Schnabel for trusting us to be a part of this critical project. We look forward to continuing to support the innovative work that is driving Maryland’s wastewater infrastructure forward. Together, we are building a stronger, more resilient future.
