The Hose Company: Supporting the Rosethorne Tidal Project with Hydrauli-Flex Hoses
In 2022, The Hose Company played a crucial role in the success of the Rosethorne Tidal Project, a vital initiative designed to protect the community of Jean Lafitte, Louisiana, from the destructive forces of future hurricanes and flooding. This project, part of a larger $300 million effort to safeguard the greater Lafitte area, required reliable and efficient equipment that could perform in challenging conditions. As part of this initiative, ICE® supplied heavy-duty excavator-mounted equipment to install sheet piles, and The Hose Company provided the hydraulic hoses that made sure everything operated seamlessly.
Hurricane Ida and the Need for Protection
When Hurricane Ida made landfall in Louisiana in 2021, it caused widespread devastation, particularly in Jefferson Parish. Torrential rains and storm surges, some reaching as high as 11 feet, flooded many communities, including Jean Lafitte. In the wake of this disaster, the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority and the Louisiana Transportation Department set out to protect the region from future storms by installing 29 miles of levees, flood-walls, and gated structures.
One of the key projects within this larger plan is the Rosethorne Tidal Project. Phase one of this project focuses on installing flood-walls that stand 7.5 feet above sea level. Upon completion, this flood-wall system will provide much-needed protection against 10-year rainfall or tidal events, significantly reducing flood risk for the residents of Rosethorne. This $34 million project is part of a larger effort to reduce flood risks in Jefferson Parish, with 10 high-priority projects planned for the region.
Circle Construction and ICE® Equipment
Circle Construction, based in Belle Chasse, was awarded the contract to carry out the installation of the flood-walls and floodgates. Due to the challenging conditions of the project, including muddy terrain and the fact that much of the construction would take place in residential backyards, Circle Construction needed specialized equipment to safely and efficiently install the sheet piles.
For this job, Circle Construction selected ICE®'s 7E Excavator-mounted pile driver and extractor, which is uniquely suited for working in the swampy, waterlogged conditions of the bayous. The 7E Excavator-mounted equipment is highly maneuverable, enabling the efficient placement of sheet piles without the need to lay down large crane mats. With 57 tons of driving force, the ICE® 7E was more than capable of handling the demanding terrain, ensuring that the construction of the flood-walls could continue uninterrupted.
The Role of Hydrauli-Flex Hoses in ICE® Equipment
The reliable operation of the ICE® equipment was made possible, in part, by the high-quality hydraulic hoses provided by The Hose Company. Hydraulic hoses are critical components in ICE®’s vibratory hammers and drills, as they enable the efficient transfer of hydraulic fluid to power these large machines. Without these hoses, the equipment would be unable to function effectively, especially under the demanding conditions of the Rosethorne Tidal Project.
The Hose Company’s Hydrauli-Flex hoses are designed to withstand the toughest environments, providing durability, flexibility, and reliability in the most challenging conditions. These hoses are specially engineered to ensure optimal performance in applications that require high pressure and extreme reliability. By providing the right hydraulic hoses for ICE® equipment, The Hose Company plays an essential role in keeping the construction process on track and minimizing downtime.
A Partnership for Success
The collaboration between ICE® and The Hose Company was instrumental in the success of the Rosethorne Tidal Project. As the project moved forward, The Hose Company’s Hydrauli-Flex hoses continued to ensure that ICE® equipment operated smoothly and efficiently, contributing to the timely and effective construction of the flood-walls that will protect the Jean Lafitte community for years to come.
With the completion of the Rosethorne Tidal Project, 10,300 linear feet of flood-walls and floodgates will provide vital protection for the residents of Jean Lafitte, reducing their vulnerability to future storm surges and floods. The Hose Company’s commitment to providing high-quality hoses for ICE® equipment ensures that these large-scale coastal protection projects can continue to move forward, helping to safeguard communities and businesses from the devastating effects of extreme weather events.
