Rebuilding Marysville Ferry Dock: How Hydrauli-Flex Hoses Power ICE Equipment for a Successful Project

At The Hose Company, we take immense pride in the products we provide to our clients—especially when they help drive major infrastructure projects that benefit entire communities. One such project that stands out is the ongoing reconstruction of the Marysville ferry dock on Wolfe Island, Lake Ontario, which is being spearheaded by FACCA Incorporated. As a premier heavy-civil construction contractor based in Ontario, FACCA is tackling this ambitious $63.3 million project, awarded by the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO), with precision and expertise.

The Marysville Ferry Dock Project: A Major Infrastructure Undertaking

The project, which began in September 2020, aims to completely rebuild the Marysville ferry dock along Centre Street. The scope of work includes new passenger, utility, and service buildings, upgrades to mooring and docking locations, additional spaces on the dock, as well as enhanced pedestrian and cycling facilities. This redevelopment will not only improve the safety and reliability of ferry services but will also support regional economic growth through job creation, making it a pivotal infrastructure development for the area.

Challenges in Driving Sheet Pile: A Key Moment for ICE® Vibratory Hammers

As is often the case with complex projects, unexpected challenges arise. During the reconstruction, FACCA encountered difficulties driving sheet pile for the new dock with a smaller vibratory hammer. This problem threatened to slow down progress and jeopardize timelines. But that's where ICE® (International Construction Equipment) stepped in.

Jim Ziemer, ICE®'s International Sales Manager, worked closely with FACCA’s team to find the perfect solution. The goal was to select a vibratory pile hammer powerful enough to handle the job but without the need for a larger crane, which could add complexity and cost to the project. After careful consideration, FACCA decided to purchase the ICE® Model 33 Vibratory Pile Hammer, paired with the Model 475HP Power Unit. This combination proved to be a game-changer.

Powering Through with ICE® Vibratory Pile Hammers and Hydrauli-Flex Hoses

In January 2021, FACCA's construction crews began using the ICE® Model 33 Vibratory Pile Hammer to drive 90-foot-long sections of AZ38-700N sheet pile for the shoreline perimeter wall. The performance of the ICE® equipment exceeded all expectations, delivering the power and precision needed to keep the project moving forward without any significant delays.

A crucial part of the successful operation was the seamless integration of Hydrauli-Flex hoses into the system. Hydrauli-Flex hoses are the ideal complement to ICE® vibratory hammers, and here's why:

  1. Exceptional Durability: Hydrauli-Flex hoses are designed to withstand the extreme conditions found on construction sites, especially when operating high-performance equipment like vibratory hammers.

  2. High-Pressure Performance: Vibratory hammers require hydraulic systems that can handle high pressure to maintain consistent operation. Hydrauli-Flex hoses excel in this environment, ensuring uninterrupted hydraulic flow and optimal performance.

  3. Leak and Failure Resistance: The robust construction of Hydrauli-Flex hoses minimizes the risk of leaks and failures, reducing downtime and enhancing the safety and reliability of the equipment.

  4. Consistent Hydraulic Flow: These hoses maintain a steady hydraulic flow, which is critical for the efficient operation of vibratory hammers. This ensures that ICE® equipment works smoothly, even under the most demanding conditions.

By providing the necessary durability, safety, and performance, Hydrauli-Flex hoses ensure that ICE® equipment can continue to perform at the highest level, delivering successful and efficient project outcomes.
