Celebrating Riverfront Park's Rebuild: A Partnership with The Hose Company and Callan Marine Ltd.

In the heart of Beaumont, TX, a major milestone has been achieved. After over five years since the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey in 2017, the groundbreaking for the restoration of Riverfront Park is finally underway. This $17 million project is set to breathe new life into the park, with improvements including the reconstruction of pavilions, picnic areas, lighted benches, boat docking spaces, and scenic walking paths.

Beaumont, often referred to as part of Texas' "Golden Triangle," is ideally situated for growth due to its coastal location, which offers immense economic potential. With over 115,000 residents, the city is on the cusp of a new era, and Riverfront Park is a pivotal part of this revitalization.

In early 2023, Galveston-based construction company Callan Marine Ltd. was selected to spearhead the project. With their reputation for excellence in marine construction, Callan Marine’s expertise was the perfect fit for this complex and crucial task. The project broke ground in April 2023, and progress has been steady and impressive.

The Challenges of a Coastal Construction Project

The scale of the Riverfront Park rebuild involves a host of challenges, particularly when working from barges in the river, but Callan Marine is equipped to handle them. To date, they've made significant strides with the installation of erosion-resistant interlocking concrete mats and have completed a large outfall structure to stabilize storm lines running through the park.

The dredging work is currently 59% complete, and the installation of a bulkhead wall to protect the riverbank is ongoing. The ICE® equipment used in this project, including the IP-10 Hydraulic Impact Hammer and 50B Vibratory Hammer, are integral to the precision and efficiency of the work.

The Role of ICE® Equipment in the Success of the Project

As the project continues, The Hose Company is proud to be a key partner in supplying the high-quality hydraulic hoses and systems that help power ICE® equipment used on-site. ICE® equipment, such as the IP-10 Hydraulic Impact Hammer powered by an ICE® 350 hydraulic power unit, is essential for driving the 18" pipe piles needed for the new Beaumont Wharf expansion. These specialized machines allow Callan Marine to complete the piling and foundation work needed to stabilize the bank, ensuring a solid base for the new structures.

Furthermore, The Hose Company's Hydrauli-Flex hoses are central to the operation of the equipment that drives the project forward. Hydraulic hoses are vital in transferring pressurized fluids to power machinery, and they’re designed to withstand harsh conditions like high pressure, heat, and movement, which are typical on construction sites, especially ones involving marine work.

Our Hydrauli-Flex hoses are known for their durability, flexibility, and resistance to abrasion, making them ideal for use in demanding environments such as the Riverfront Park rebuild. The hoses contribute to the reliability and longevity of the hydraulic systems, ensuring that the equipment operates smoothly and efficiently even in the most challenging conditions.

On Track for Completion

As of January 2024, 25 of the 98 required batter piles have been installed, and the installation of 84 feet of water for the sheet pile wall is well underway. The remaining work includes additional deep foundation equipment for marine dolphin installation, along with piles for the new dock and bulkhead. Time is of the essence with a completion deadline set for September 6, 2024, but the dedicated team at Callan Marine is running on schedule and within budget.

The careful planning, precision engineering, and tireless effort being put into this project will ultimately restore and enhance the local waterfront, boosting both the city’s infrastructure and its economy.
